Dear President Obama,
I believe that the United States of America has had enough of protesting at funerals. A prime example would be the Westboro Baptist Church. While I am all for Free Speech, I believe that Protesting at funerals should be considered a hate crime. Yes, the persons protested against would not be alive, however their families and loved ones would be (what worse way to hate someone than to protest at their close family/friends funeral?). It may not be discrimination, but it is violating a family's privacy. I myself have a daughter and I cannot honestly say what I would do if something happened to her and they came out and protested. Just imagining such a thing makes me sick.
My proposal would be to make a Public announcement telling all affiliations of people who decide to protest at funerals to stop. If they do not, they will be punished by hate crime laws (and possibly privacy laws). If such laws do not exist, then they should be created. I am pretty sure that 99% of people will agree with me no matter what religion, race, sex, or gender they are. We the American people deserve to be left alone to mourn our families and friends. If you look up "Westboro Baptist Church - Obama" you will find photos of you that they have destroyed and turned into something very ugly ("The Beast" as they refer to you).
Please do something about this soon. Christina Green's (the 9 year old girl who was murdered in Tuscon) family will be Westboro Baptist Church's next funeral victims (they have already been threatening them).
its sick what they do. nobody should have to deal with those people while saying goodbye to a loved one. leave the funerals alone already! so disrespectful.
