Too many lives have been ruined by the Florid law that requires officers to arrest a person when they are found with possession of Marijuana. Today's law on marijuana in Florida is that if they have less than 20 grams it is a misdemeanor which still is 1 year in prison, and that looks terrible on a persons record. This petition is not to legalize marijuana in Florida, it is to stop arrests for possession of Marijuana. When someone is arrested for possession of Marijuana they are fined an amount to bail out of jail before their court date, if the entire court date could be skipped, and the bail was just replaced by the same amount but in a ticket form, and avoid all of the things that actually costs the state money like the court date and to have them inside the jail. Marijuana is slowly sweeping the country, and more and more states are starting to legalize the plant like California, Washington, and Colorado. These states had millions of more dollars in their state funds after legalizing the plant, because they saved money on court fees, and keeping people incarcerated which can actually eat away the money the state has, and all of this extra money can be re directed into education so people can make more informed decisions because they will be better educated on many things. When These states stopped arresting people for marijuana their number of arrests a year dropped drastically. Without legalizing marijuana Florida can hand out tickets to people depending the amount that the person is in possession of, this way it will not effect the persons life so badly, compared to having an arrest or a felony on someones record.
