The purpose of this petition is to bring elected officials compensation to a level you and I live with every day. Most of you might have your own retirement plan, through your employer and you also contribute to social security, and medicare . Some employer's add to your retirement due to profit sharing. All employers must contribute to your social security compensation. Bottom line is Elected Officials get paid a salary . In Ohio, The member must contribute at least 10 percent of "earnable salary," defined as salary, wages or other earnings, to the retirement plan. You and I give them 14 percent of the amount of the member's earnings. Those who choose not to join must contribute to the federal Social Security system.
