Name: Anonymous on Mar 21, 2010Comments: In response to the "chopped" off Willow road. That road was chopped off in 1988, I believe, by an agreement between Rudy Frasca and Somer Township so Rudy could extend his east-west runway. I also believe part of the agreement was that Rudy would extend Triumph Drive west to Willow. As we all know, that didn't happen. That would've "chopped" off his north-south runway. Now in order to get around this problem, Urbana has an answer. They want to extend Airport Rd. west from Willow to Lincoln thru three more prime farm fields. One of them owned by Rudy $. www.city.urbana.il.us/urbana/community_development/planning/ appendix_D.pdfFlag

I will be at the city council meeting tonight.Flag

Name: Michelle Rice on Mar 23, 2010Comments: There are plenty of roads connecting Champaign to 45, there need not be another. People can be put to work fixing the roads we do have, since the one I live off in Urbana has potholes that reappear every few weeks. Spend money wisely and save the farmland.Flag

I have to say that I just don't see this. It is a "Field of Dreams" endeavor created with the usual aim of benefiting developers. In the end there will be more empty lots in Urbana. I'm really surprised that the you all would do this. Please don't.Flag

We do not need to destroy agricultural goldmines just so that rich corporations can expand their profits on the backs of our community.Flag

Name: Christopher Heller on Mar 30, 2010Comments: The logic behind this project is flawed. There is insufficient data that the expansion will be of economic benefit. There is also the concern of keeping up the roads we have and not building new ones. Lastly, if you must continue this course of action, please consider the alternate route.Flag

Name: Anonymous on Mar 30, 2010Comments: I came to this area 35 years ago from the land of concrete mountains and corruption --- the state of Chicago. First lived on Crescent Drive in Champaign, but fell in love with Urbana. Now, with the sprawl, inner Urbana is dying. Give it life. Please do not pave this beautiful farmland with a road - completely disregarding the century farmers who have protected it all this time. If this money is earmarked for the project, give it back and take the lobbyists back to Washington to redirect it to education (save another resource - our teachers) and current road maintenance. But then, the developers, unions, et al would not make any money by doing that. Would they? (Some people considered Al Capone a great philanthropist !)Flag

It's high time that politicians in our community understand that we have a precious environment--the rich prairie land--and we need to do our best to preserve this heritage for our children and grandchildren.Flag

Name: Astrid Dussinger on Apr 3, 2010Comments: This is a perfect example of how the promise of federal money can help ruin a community by building yet another bridge to nowhere. Instead of using these millions for socially valuable projects, this rape of precious, historical farmland is a shameful waste of our tax dollars.Flag
