Name: Charlotte Klasson on Jan 21, 2004Comments: It is irresponsible for our Commissioners to invite expensive lawsuits regarding the separation of church and state. There are more important and valid concerns for the County Commission to pursue rather than waste valuable time with this issue. Religion is a private matter and is one of the most important areas for local, state and federal entities to respect and AVOID interfering in. I hope that they will remember that we are a great country because of tolerance and acceptance and respect for privacy and independence. There is no need to make this public statement with our tax dollars and YES, tax dollars are used for the discussion and resources associated with this issue, despite what its supporters will say. It is a huge mistake and flies in the face of our personal freedoms.Flag

Name: DIANNE M MEAGHER on Jan 21, 2004Comments: Questions about God are simply not to be answered by government according to our Constitution, which wisely leaves such matters of conscience in the sphere of the individual citizen to protect the individual from the 'tyranny of the majority.' What a wonderful change it would be to have a Council schooled in government!Flag

Name: Hillary Harty-Kalisek on Jan 21, 2004Comments: I don't live in Tennessee at present, but I was born at Vanderbilt hospital when my Dad was in law school. I doubt if my signing of this petition will have any swing, but I think your county officials should know that is was a Grand Druid named Brigid (who was subsequently sainted by the Catholic church) that originated the "common law" on which the laws of this country (and many others)are based. I have to agree that your officials seem to be rather uneducated and are certainly displaying their ignorance for everyone to see. Good luck!Flag

Name: William Gardner on Jan 21, 2004Comments: This is a bad idea, in consideration of our valued separation of church and state. If it should proceed, however, I suggest you need to make the petition reference "Jesus Christ" instead of just "God".Flag

Name: Darlene Morris on Jan 21, 2004Comments: I was saved as a young girl in the Baptist faith, but this resolution has no place in any government in the United States. Our founding fathers were men of faith who had the wisdom to separate church and state issues. We are now a very culturally diverse nation with many faiths and many "God's", all of which have equal rights under the current system. All this resolution does is discriminate and divide us. The war our forefathers fought,to separate us from England and establish our nation had nothing to do with God...remember "taxation without representation" It had to do with money...not religion. Please vote against this resolution and never allow it to be brought up again. There are much more important things to consider.Flag

Name: David Holden on Jan 21, 2004Comments: I have read the so-called "God Resolution" when it was first considered by the Commission, and I have read it again after the recent revision. Both versions are gross distortions of U.S. history and contrary to one of our most treasured freedoms, the separation of church and state. Please do not adopt this resolution. Sincerely, David HoldenFlag
