| 15756 | Anonymous | Further development of Heathrow is wholly irresponsible.
This completely ignores:
- the amount of additional waste and noise pollution that citizens will experience
- the increased road traffic
- the increased danger of accidents in a built up area
Assuming 80% of flights from Heathrow will still be in Europe such growth also stands in conflict with:
- the rising cost of fuel
- the extra demand on fuel
- further increasing the price of fuel
- the increased demand for biofuel
- resulting in deforestation and effective decrease in land for food
- the impact on the supply and growth of food in Europe and elsewhere.
Alternative ground based transport already provides access to a lot of Europe and preserves oil for a longer period.
We are already seeing that our high oil usage is not sustainable in the prices of food, transport and heating.
Short haul flights are already financially unsustainable given that they are priced deceptively within hidden charges that grossly inflate the advertised price. Increased fuel prices will only make this worse. |

| 15762 | Arlene Fullerton | I am absolutely opposed to expansion of Heathrow on environmental and social grounds. It would increase environmental pollution, global warming , traffic pollution, sleep disturbance, and risk of air accident. |
| 15763 | W.H.Fullerton | Expansion is incompatible with government policy on global warming. It would mean greater pollution all round, air, noise, traffic. The economic case does not match the disadvantages. London is not going to fail as financial hub without expansion. |
| 15764 | Mark Chapman | The expansion of Heathrow is simply not viable economically, environmentally or socially. It must be opposed at every turn. |
| 15765 | Mark Edwards | The whole premise for building Heathrow was based on a con, and now the people of Harmondswoth, Sipson, Longford and Harlington are paying the final instalment. The environment of the area is now blighted beyond repair by the airport as it is now, further compounding the natural problems of fog and bad weather endemic on Hounslow Heath and the Thames Valley generally. |

| 15767 | Lawrence Jones MBE | To give so many people peace and quiet and to save the homes of others; to prevent the outpouring s from aviation and motor vehicle fuel; to prevent further madness in expanding here instead of building at the Thames Estuary;
STOP EXPANDING NOW, HEATHROW |
| 15768 | FRANCES JOYCE JONES | Utterly fed up with the disregard of present Government and the bosses of Heathrow for the health and welfare of millions of us in South-East England. |

| 15770 | Natasha Simeone | I say NO to the heathrow expansion! |
| 15771 | Mark Watson | I believe the government should stop simply reacting to increasing demand for air travel and should think creatively about ways to reduce the demand. Ordinary UK citizens have no desire to host the busiest travel hub in the world. Let another country have that glory, if they want it. Although my firm belief is that the levels of pollution (of all kinds) generated by air travel are unsustainable, whichever country they are eminating from. |

It will not be long before the government includes aviation in their plans to reduce CO2 emissions. Where will this leave the industry then? |

| 15792 | Anonymous | Arguments in support of Heathrow expansion simply don’t make sense, particularly when taken from a sustainability perspective. For example Heathrow apparently needs to grow to ‘fuel’ the UK economy. This argument simply does not add up given the imminent threat from peak oil (which even the most optimistic assessments place around 2030). The truth is that post peak oil, the cost of aviation will soar and budget airlines will be a thing of the past – aviation will only be available to those willing to pay vast amounts for the time savings it provides. Therefore projections that air traffic will double by 2030 are highly questionable and can only happen with the emergence of some wonder fuel to feed the thirsty airliners. Unfortunately no such magic fuel is available at present, otherwise we would be busy exploiting its potential. Hydrogen and Biofuel are not only highly expensive, but also producing and storing them is incredibly energy intensive, and with particular respect to Biofuel, raise sustainability questions. There is no alternative to match the level of mobility provided by kerosene (a crude oil product) to allow the level of growth in aviation the government is assuming in the coming decades. Lets face it – aviation is no exception from the effects of Peak Oil! |

It is great that a climate change bill is due in the UK but airport extensions is all non sense and outweight any intention the government has.
Please stop Heathrow Expension and any airport expension. |

| 15798 | Mary Cope | |
| 15799 | Cheryl Gibbs | High speed rail needs to be investigated as an alternative to more flights. Too many flights are just transfers and the economic benefit to BAA is surely outweighed by the annoyance caused to residents of London. Runway alternation must be maintained for the sanity of local residents who need some noise relief. |
