Stop Heathrow Expansion

We oppose further expansion of Heathrow. We call on the Government and BAA to drop plans to: build a third runway and a sixth terminal; and to increase the number of flights using the existing runways by getting rid of runway alternation.

  • Andrew Jaconelli Heathrow and surrounding areas are blighted by traffic jams noise and pollution levels that are not acceptable in the 21st century. Strategic thinking is needed so I'll through mine out there.
Located approximately half way between London & Birmingham is the former RAF base Upper Heyford, the runway is said to be 3 miles long. I put forward a plan to bring the former airbase into operation as another airport.
    Reasons.
1, Access from the M40 is acceptable on condition a new direct link access road to connect travel to and from Airport.
    2, Build a HS2 stop there.
3, Build a new bus hub, and train station there.
    4. The economy will expand in the area significantly, also allowing people from the Midlands to benefit from being able to be employed there.
5 , freight terminals can access railway.
    The list is endless!

  • Philip Barnes The "hub and spoke" model is outdated - Boeing build smaller not bigger now because the demand is point to point. That means smaller regional airports increasing their throughput not LHR expanding.
65% of people who pass through LHR are not on business. They are going on holiday. It doesn't matter to them if the fly from Stanstead, Luton or Birmingham - they have no need to be swiftly accessible to the centre of London. LHR does not need to expand - the contrary is the case.

  • Bryan Tomlinson London is a hub airport with more runways than Amsterdam, Frankfurt or Paris.
The UK needs more flight capacity in other parts of the country.
Forget 400,000+ extra flights in the gridlocked M25/M4 Heathrow corridor.
Think ahead and share flights around.
