We the undersigned demand that as Israeli citizens and residents of Jerusalem and vicinity, we have the right not to be medicated by fluoridated drinking water, against our will.
Fluoride (Fluosilicic acid) is a toxic waste product of the fertilizer industry (deriving in Israel from Rotem Deshanim Company in the Negev). Here in Israel fluoride drops and tablets are available over the counter. However, in America fluoride is classified as an unapproved drug by the Federal Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and dentists cannot provide it without a prescription.
Whereas the process of water fluoridation may produce certain benefits for the teeth, it also presents substantial health risks. After careful study the following countries have either discontinued or totally rejected fluoridation: Belgium, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, France, Germany, Holland, Spain, Austria and others. Furthermore, India and Italy have defluoridation systems for removal of fluoride occurring in the water naturally.
Since August 1996 the following key organizations in America no longer endorse fluoridation, mainly out of concern for its potential health risks for sensitive subsets of the population:
American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, National Kidney Foundation, American Academy of Allergy and Immunology, American Diabetes Association, Society of Toxicology, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Activation Network, American Psychiatric Association, American Chiropractic Association, American Civil Liberties Union, National Institute of Law Municipal Officers.
As many as fourteen Nobel Prize winners in medicine and chemistry have either taken a stand against fluoridation or expressed reservations. They are: Adolf Butenandt (Chemistry, 1939), Arvid Carlsson (Chemistry, 2000), Hans von Euler-Chelpin (Chemistry, 1929), Walter Rudolf Hess (Medicine, 1949), Corneille Jean-François Heymans (Medicine, 1938, Sir Cyril Norman Hinshelwood (Chemistry, 1956), Joshua Lederberg (Medicine, 1958), William P. Murphy (Medicine, 1934), Giulio Natta (Chemistry, 1963), Sir Robert Robinson (Chemistry, 1947), Nikolai Semenov (Chemistry, 1956), James B. Sumner (Chemistry, 1946), Hugo Theorell (Medicine, 1955), Artturi Virtanen (Chemistry, 1945)
Leading scientists say:
"I am appalled at the prospect of using water as a vehicle for drugs. Fluoride is a corrosive poison that will produce serious effects on a long range basis. Any attempt to use water this way is deplorable." Dr. Chas. Gordon, past president of the American Medical Association (AMA)

In view of the above we, as citizens of the State of Israel and residents of Jerusalem and vicinity, demand the right to receive non-medicated tap water. Please honor this request and let those who choose to treat their teeth with fluoride obtain it from another source. |
