WELCOME TO THE FIGHT! Nov 29. 2009 | Comments (1)
For those of you who don't know me, my name is Barbara Barco. I'm an everyday American suburban mom. I've lived in my home on Durant Road for the past 17 years, have raised my children in the area, and have watched the area grow from rural farms to the bustling suburb we all know and love. One thing that really drew me to this area is the "country feel" to our lovely suburban life, the presence of good, local schools and an absolutely beautiful County Park where many happy souls spend time fishing, boating and enjoying their families. Now, our peaceful way of life is being threatened, the value of our homes is being threatened, and the health of our families is being threatened by a recent Proposal made to REZONE the 3,081 ACRE AREA bounded by SR 60 on the North side, DURANT ROAD on the South side, TURKEY CREEK ROAD on the East side and DOVER ROAD on the West side from AGRICULTURAL/RURAL to ENERGY INDUSTRIAL PARK. That's right people, TECO wants to build a "BIO-FUEL" Industrial Complex in your backyard. What that means is that TECO will be burning tree trimmings, manure and other biogradeable waste; and the complexes smokestacks would puff out an "acceptable level" of poisons into our air and groundwater. Everywhere you go, whether it's dropping off your kids at the local schools, or enjoying a day with your family at Medard Resevoir, or just sitting on your front porch, you will be doing it in the shadow of a looming industrial complex. What could the County be thinking? The area they are talking about is bounded by schools, homes, parks, and PEOPLE. Lots of people. And it's gonna take PEOPLE to STOP this horrible plan. I know we all have busy lives, but please take a minute to PASS THE PETITION ON TO YOUR FRIENDS AND NEIGHBORS IN HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY. Let your voice be heard!!! Contact Al Higgenbotham and the County Planning Commissioners and tell them you oppose this industrialization of Brandon. Their e-mail links are listed at the right.
PS - Please add your thoughts to my blog. I've never done anything like this before and I could use all the help I can get. Just click on the blog title and go down to the bottom of the page to add your comments. You can contact me directly at bbarco@tampabay.rr.com.
WE HAVE JUST BEGUN TO FIGHT!!!! MARK YOU CALENDARS - THE FIRST PUBLIC HEARING IS ON FEBRUARY 8, 2010 AT 5:30 PM ON THE 18TH FLOOR OF THE COUNTY CENTER BUILDING.
As a former Plant City resident, I am outraged that this is even a possibility. This specific area is populated by families and schools. Surely there are better locations for these Industrial Complexes to be built. Plant City children should not be subject to breathing in fumes from Bio-Fuel factories, nor should resident of a quiet local community be subject to the noise and truck traffic that this complex is sure to bring. I encourage all residents to sign this petition.
