David PhillipsUnderstanding the extent to which the Internet is becoming pervasive in people's lives is a big issue for management. Blocking access is tantamount to blocking out the society people need to thrive and prevents interactivity that makes a rounded emplyee effective.
Dan YorkI've always seen this as an issue of managing employees. There are a million ways to slack off and avoid work, from reading books to playing solitaire - to visiting online sites. If employees have meaningful work and are engaged in the company's activities, they will do their work and not be distracted.

Tony MolloyThe use of online media and services continues to grow and is becoming the norm for the upcoming generation, these media are their tools of choice for their interactions with their peers and communities, so barring access to them creates frustrations and causes disengagement and will ultimately be counter-productive. There will always be those who misuse these tools, the response should be to deal with those who do so as an issue of management and not to simply avoid the problem by preventing any use.

Kami HuyseThe strict practices of most IT departments are actually hampering the communicators ability to get their work done. I wonder how much time is wasted getting "exceptions" to these draconian rules lifted?

Luis SuarezI am signing this particular petition to show my support about it, more than anything else because I think it is about time that companies start trusting their employees more that they would do their work in a professional manner using the different tools at their disposal. Certainly, banning usage of social software is like crippling the workforce from being able to get the job done smarter, without necessarily making it harder. Therefore my support to stop the blocking.

Carter MaysillesI agree!!! When Shel Holtz spoke against employee blocking at the Social Media Conference in Chicago last week, I wanted to jump up and down clapping. Every point he made I have screamed inside my own head at one point or another. Count me in as a supporter.

Susan F. HeywoodI believe this is especially important for companies that maintain an online presence themselves (as most do now) and those that want to attract, retain and engage the best and brightest talent.
TAMYstopblocking!
Nathan WalshWe should be allowed the access to relieve stress and especially on breaks and stuff we should be able to do pritty much what we want. Anyways we should be able to go on sites we want as long as we don't abuse it.
Neal LinkonOur company blocks our own videos and webcasts for employees. Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face!

Annalie KillianGreat initiative. My company does not block social media, but gambling and porn. Fair enough. But even so....there are many other companies and managers who want to block it. So I support the petition.
