Comments: Understanding the extent to which the Internet is becoming pervasive in people's lives is a big issue for management. Blocking access is tantamount to blocking out the society people need to thrive and prevents interactivity that makes a rounded emplyee effective.

Comments: I've always seen this as an issue of managing employees. There are a million ways to slack off and avoid work, from reading books to playing solitaire - to visiting online sites. If employees have meaningful work and are engaged in the company's activities, they will do their work and not be distracted.

Comments: The use of online media and services continues to grow and is becoming the norm for the upcoming generation, these media are their tools of choice for their interactions with their peers and communities, so barring access to them creates frustrations and causes disengagement and will ultimately be counter-productive. There will always be those who misuse these tools, the response should be to deal with those who do so as an issue of management and not to simply avoid the problem by preventing any use.

Comments: The strict practices of most IT departments are actually hampering the communicators ability to get their work done. I wonder how much time is wasted getting "exceptions" to these draconian rules lifted

Comments: I am signing this particular petition to show my support about it, more than anything else because I think it is about time that companies start trusting their employees more that they would do their work in a professional manner using the different tools at their disposal. Certainly, banning usage of social software is like crippling the workforce from being able to get the job done smarter, without necessarily making it harder. Therefore my support to stop the blocking.

Comments: I agree!!! When Shel Holtz spoke against employee blocking at the Social Media Conference in Chicago last week, I wanted to jump up and down clapping. Every point he made I have screamed inside my own head at one point or another. Count me in as a supporter.

Comments: I believe that the blocking of internet sites hinder people from learning when using the internet. As a student, I feel that I cannot use my computers at school because too many sites are blocked, some of which I need to use for my school assignments. I feel as if excessive blocking of internet sites are a breach of our right to knowledge. The filters used to block sites on the internet are like 'using a hammer to crack a nut'.

Comments: Honestly, in my opinion, that its not fair for the school to block certain sites because of one student. Just because they did something that was against the rules, doesn't mean that you have to take away everyone else's privileges. Take the privileges away from the ones who do abuse the rules. Not letting students wear pajama bottoms is really, just plain rediculous. Yes it could be because of a "fire hazzard" but students want to be comfortable. Let them be comfy! If one student disobeys the rules, take THEIR privileges not everyone elses. Like I've said before. It's rediculous how far our school has gone with the blocking of MUSIC sites, not just youtube and gaming sites. But also music. Most students like to enjoy music WHILE they work. And after all work is done, we like to get on sites like www.wittyprofiles.com but now, we can't. So we're miserable and bored out of our minds. I hope that the board of education can see what students have said on this site, and see how everyone feels. It is truely rediculous. We would like to have fun with things. Let the ones who abuse the rules suffer, NOT EVERYONE ELSE! Thank you. <3 Megan Rumsey
