Comments: I will have to deal with this unethical cable charge starting May 2010. The NOB Hill Apt mgr in San Antonio, TX says that it will be mandatory and should have started back in Aug 2009 when I renewed my lease agreement. The old mgmt company failed to charge us. Well they failed to charge us because some of us did not want and do not want the service. The wording in the Special Provisions paragraph reads, " Total monthly rent is $ + utilities + $38 cable + 10 parking per month. I donot have a car so I donot pay for parking. Also, I would have the option of parking on the street or in a uncovered spot on the lot for no charge. The wording is very vague making it look as "if" I wanted the service then I would pay the monthly charge. As a matter of fact item no. 43 on the lease contract under utlility allocation has electricity, water, gas, and trash removal checked. The box next to cable TV is not checked. In Texas if you do not pay for cable TV services you will be charged late fees as well as be charged with "Theft of Services". This is injustice and very unethical conduct for any business.

Comments: Mandatory cable TV for leasing contract is unfair. There are a lot of way for saving money on cable TV service if you use Inter service. But current aptment leasing office force us to use their preferred cable TV provider even we don't watch TV.

Comments: In these economic times, I cannot afford to spend what little money I have on the luxary of cable television. I cannot even put food in my mouth, so being forced to pay $40/mo for Comcast is against public policy. I argue that it's against my Constitutional right under the First Amendment Freedom of Speech. I would also argue that the clause in the renter's agreement requiring such mandatory service is unconscionable, thereby declaring that clause invalid. I am only in the beginning stages of my research on this matter, but, as a recent law grad with humongous law loan debt to pay as another priority over cable television, I do take it seriously.

Comments: Especially in these tough economic times, no Texas resident should be forced to pay for discretionary services they don't need or want in order to subsidize those who do. THIS is true socialism!

Comments: Having recently gotten rid of cable due to the limited provider, excessive charges and lack of competition, I find the idea that landlords could take this sort of action to encourage monopolies and is uneccessary.

Comments: Camden Stoneleigh (part of Camden Properties) just started mandating cable for an extra $50/mo. -- this is on top of the already mandated $25 valet trash. I don't even own a TV. Absolutely outrageous.

Comments: The economy is bad enough the way it is. Are these cable providers so desperate that they have to have landlords charge for a luxury utility? The citizen has no right anymore. We are all being controlled and it''s just not by the cable/satellite providers. We know who else is in on it. Think about it!
