How would you like a factory to be operating on your door-step for 24 hours a day, every day of the week ?
The Hon. Craig Knowles MP, the new Minister for Planning at the NSW Government is currently considering a development application that proposes to have a factory operating 24 hours, seven days a week in the heart of the small family orientated, inner-west suburb of Lewisham. Will your suburb be next?
How can residents live with the noise of industrial production in our homes and increased trucks and traffic in our streets around the clock ? Don't let the NSW Government set a precedent for business to disrupt our Sydney neighbourhoods.
Not only does this development application seek 24-hour operation, but the company Graphic World wants to build a 4 storey extension which includes a 2 storey concrete car-park over the Hawthorn Canal.
Did you know that Hawthorn Canal has been ear-marked for a cycle/walkway and regeneration project that will create a green corridor to link recreational parklands from Leichhardt to Marrickvile? Don't let the NSW Government grant a development that will take away the wider community's enjoyment of this space. The neighbouring councils have already voiced objections to this disruption but to date the NSW government is not listening to local concerns and is taking decisions into their hands.
If you care about your community, voice your opinion and sign this petition to let Government know this is the wrong way for Sydney development and urban planning to be moving. Lewisham, the surrounding suburbs and communities Sydney-wide do not want to see a precedent set by allowing factories to move into our homes.
Planning NSW (Knowles' department) says that community consultation and putting residents first is a priority. So voice your objections to this outrageous and inappropriate development and sign this petition, which will be sent directly to Mr. Knowles, Dr Refshauge (Local member for the area) and the Manager of Planning NSW on 26 May 2003. |
