Comments: As a parent, I am completely dissatisfied with the 1-2-3 grading system for 4th grade and higher.

Comments: I believe the 1-2-3 system inadequately gives too little detail about individual child preformance. Wheather academically strong or weak, parents need to have more specific detail with regard to actual grades. The 1-2-3 tries to cover toooooooo many bases, but does so in toooooo great of generality -- by givng the 1-2-3. My child has received a "3" for every single reported catagory since beginning to use this system -- each grading period. My reaction when receiving his report card is ... okay. Fine. But I still do not have a strong perception of where he needs further attention, or where he has individual strenths and weaknesses. I do feel the teacher gets better feed back than parents becasue it simply shows that my child is mastering the material which he should be mastering at his given grade. Again, fine. Graded scoring allows parents and students to acurately follow the progress of the children. Let's return to basics and let the teachers teach! Let the children earn real grades reflecting thier abilities. I equate the "3" with an "average" ability. To me that is a "C" in grade. I feel children need to strive for more than average. My child has internalized that he is doing all that is necessary for his efforts in school. How dissatisfiying for me as his mother to see him involved in a system rewarding complacency and average effort.

Comments: I have found the 1-2-3 grading system useful when my kids were in K and First Grade. But beyond then, my older children lose enthusiasm when their excellent work receives a "3", the same as their peers who simply meet a requirement. Also a 3 has no real value to them and it is a mark too baseless for them to strive for ("Oh boy, I got a 3!" ). All kids know what A's are and understand the grading concepts of 0-100. The old standard had a much better ability to break out just how well a student was achieving while also giving students something to strive for in a way they understood. We give our teachers holiday gifts with "A+ teacher" written all over them - why not give that same gift to our kids

Comments: 123 grading is ineffective way to understand exactly how your child is doing in their classroom. It is ambiguous and difficult to determine where your child is struggling. Additionally, it leaves the grading of your child more to the discretion of the teacher. When conflicts of opinion occur between the parent and the teacher, it is not easy for the teacher to substantiate the grade given to the student using the 123 system. As a parent of a 4th grader and a 2nd grader, I can say that it has been much easier for me to discern how my 4th grader is doing in school. Let's face it. It's hard enough to get information about their work and thoughts from them why lead to more ambiguity with the 123 system.

Comments: It is not appropriate for any grade level to have a lack of a grade for exceeding standards. Traditional grading has worked for many years and I want to see its use as the primary means in our county for all grades. I am asking the Forsyth County Board of Education to stop any more expansions of the 123 grading system and convert back to traditional grading.

Comments: I agree that the 123 grading is unacceptable. I did not care for it for 3rd grade either. By the time kids actually do get grades, they are older and now in the 4th grade my son is totally stressed out by it. If it had been introduced when he was younger, it would have been no big deal.

Comments: For performance to be truly differentiated, it must be measured and rewarded the same way. Leading corporate institutions in corporate America moved away from 5-point rating systems to 3-point, and has now gone back to the 5-point system, citing the inability to compel exceptional performance, and the tendency for performance to suffer overall as the rating system was too dumbed down.

Comments: Horrible system! Not to mention you can't check them on parent portal so you're at the mercy of calling teachers for info! It's also not fair to the children who have been rewarded with the AB system & then try to figure out the 123's on a pay system to match the ABC system. Why try something new when it's always worked. It's like on math.....my child learned how to do division the New Way & now they have reverted back to the easy way we all learned & he is so confused now! Why can't we just leave well enough alone!!!!!!!!!! If you want to use the new system then use it to show where they are lacking & then average them for a main grade!

Comments: This system does not go far enough to differentiate the levels of success that the children are actually achieving. A "O" is the same as a "50".
