The Keystone Pipeline is an underground pipeline that will
transport oil from Alberta to Texas. This pipeline will transport dirty oil
known as the Alberta Tar Sands. The Alberta Tar Sands project poses a huge
threat to the environment. The tar
sands will produce approximately 19 million gallons of gasoline daily and when
the tar sands are burned, it will produce approximately 175,000 metric tons of
carbon monoxide. This is a huge amount of gases being burnt and it poses a
serious, direct threat to the environment and is a major contributor to global
warming. Also, the wastes are being spilled into the Athabasca River,
and are killing off all the fish and other wildlife in the river. To expand the
project, forests are being cleared and destroying habitats for the wildlife
surrounding the area. Studies have shown the link between 5000 birds and the
Alberta Tar Sands project. The tar sands
even pose a huge threat to human as the people of Chipewyan- the area where the
project is occurring- have had an increase in cancer rates since the project
has started. Altogether, this project is a huge disaster that harms our
environment and even us directly. If you care about our planet and want to save
it, we urge you to sign this petition. Please let your friends and families
know as well about this petition as we want to get the word across and reach
awareness of the impacts of the Alberta Tar Sands and Keystone Pipeline. Thank
you!
