Brymbo Developments Ltd have resubmitted a planning proposal to build on 'Green Barrier Land' (P/2012/0817 in WCBC planning Department) for outline planning of housing on a field adjoining the old Brymbo Steelworks site that has always been used by the community for recreational purposes.The Wrexham UDP, which is still currently in force as of March 2013, states that with respect to the 'urban village' areas such as Brymbo's environmental thresholds have been reached and services and facilities are under pressure. In addition, many of the urban villages are separated from each other by narrow areas of open countryside. The strategy aims to safeguard the individual character of the villages by maintaining these open areas and this is reflected in the allocation of land for development. It is therefore considered inadvisable to promote further major development on the edge of the urban villages beyond existing commitments.
