The MTA has officially cancelled the L train weekend closures. This win belongs to every local business owner and rider who kept the pressure on until they backed down. Stay vigilant because we will be watching their work schedule closely through the summer.

STOP the FIVE WEEKEND “L" Train Closure scheduled for April/May
The MTA has plans to do service on the L train for NINE long weeks every evening from midnight to 5AM and FIVE entire weekends in April and May from midnight on Friday evening until 5 am Monday morning, meaning there will be no service between Brooklyn and Manhattan for 5 solid weekends.
As you are aware by the amount of traffic on the L train over the weekends, Brooklyn is a cultural destination point for Manhattanites and tourists, who make a day of supporting the local businesses and galleries followed by an evening of dining and entertainment. Each gallery, restaurant and retail shop relies heavily on this weekend traffic.If people cannot easily get the neighborhoods along the L line, like Williamsburg and Bushwick, all businesses suffer immeasurably. When the L train closed for a number of weekends several years ago, many businesses in Williamsburg were so sorely impacted they were forced to close. This closure will surely have the same devastating effect.
The L train is our lifeline to Manhattan and these particular dates cut deep into the heart of the spring season – our most crucial time.
We appreciate the MTA needs to do repair work but this timing is the worst. If the MTA insists that 5 consecutive weekend closures are needed for this work, we would like the work to be delayed until August, when tourism and ridership is reduced and many businesses keep limited summer hours.As a restaurant,retail shop, gallery, or resident we need you to sign this petition so we can present it at an MTA meeting scheduled for next week.

The MTA has not responded to our requests for a meeting yet but the pressure is mounting. Post the petition link on your Facebook page today and tag the transit authority directly. Email your local representative to demand they pressure the board to move these repairs to August.

This should have been done on the winter (January/February) during slow season for business on the area. Smorgasburg is starting next week bringing large crowds to the area off the Bedford stop. Stopping service on the weekends for 5 weeks will hurt all businesses on the area. Please postpone these until September.
I add my voice to those calling for the rescheduling of this maintainace for later in the summer when it will have less impact on the cultural community in Brooklyn, whose events and open hours in the case of galleries are weekends.
5 weekends just as things begin to pick up is problematic for both our customers and employees. the closure makes it the same amount of time for my Manhattan employees to walk as to take the alternate routes. 1 hour.
Please don't do this. I work in Manhattan on weekends and not having the L train running adds at least an hour to my commute each way. And suspending the service right after raising the fares feels like a slap in the face.
I live in Brooklyn and work nights in Manhattan. Nine consecutive weeks of closures after midnight will affect my ability to pay my rent and bills. Please reconsider this plan and the significant effect a closure of this magnitude will have on residents, workers, and business-owners alike.
This will be detrimental to the residents and business of the neighbor.

Not only will this service change affect business on the L line, but as a musician, this service change will likely affect my livelyhood as well. How am I supposed to get to gigs?
