Cineplex is Canada's leading cinema chain. Their current plan is to convert most of their cinema's 35mm projectors to digital ones. This is unnerving for the following reasons: -because digital projectors are somewhat inexpensive and can be placed in any household thus cheapening your cinematic experience -because it does not take into consideration the historical and aesthetic value of classic 35mm projection -simply because some prefer 35mm projection and it should at least remain an option -because it promotes an increase in projections of the imperfect Real D 3D films -because other cinemas/cinema chains are few and far between and this leaves no alternative for a film projection advocates Please take a moment to examine the following articles in order to become educated about this historical and monumental shift in cinema. This article was an announcement detailing the conversion process in Canada: http://www.marketwire.com/press-release/cineplex-entertainment-selects-christie-doremi-cinema-as-exclusive-projector-digital-tsx-cgx-1529923.htm This article by film expert David Bordwell explains the differences between digital and film projection and offers insight into opinions and facts from people in the industry: http://www.davidbordwell.net/blog/2012/02/28/pandoras-digital-box-from-films-to-files/ On a related note, this article explains the dangers of loosing film as a medium for cinematographers: http://www.laweekly.com/2012-04-12/film-tv/35-mm-film-digital-Hollywood/?_r=true
