Please help stop senior citizens from forced, unnecessary chemical restraint teatments, specifically the very dangerous use of anti-psychotics . My Dad, a former P.O.W., retired military officer, loved to walk his dogs, write military biographies, play tennis, and be there for his grandchildren, was a victim of chemical restraints. My Dad had no history of mental illness, but was administered chemical restraints and forced out of his home against his will. He had the means and care to stay at home. It is too sad and cruel for anyone who does not have to experience this to experience it and then die. Seniors with dementia are being forced to take anti-psychotic medicines when they have no prior history of mental illness. Each day, countless fragile seniors are being administered powerful anti-psychotics which are not medically recommended for dementia. These are senior citizens who may be slightly annoyed or confused at times. They need compassionate care, not involuntary anti-psychotics as a form of chemical restraint. The results can be deadly. Please support Senator Blumenthal in S.3604 Improving Dementia Care Treatment in Older Adults Act . Don't let this happen to your parents, or to other seniors. Sign this petition. Contact your local Senator. Spread the word. Together, let's keep our seniors safe from unnecessary restraints and instead give them the love, respect, and honour they deserve.
