we got the news that the ordinance is officially dead and we wont have to pay those fees to launch our kayaks. i am honestly blown away that we pulled this off together. keep an eye on the water and make sure things stay this way.
Please help us stop the Borough of Ship Bottom, NJ from charging person(s) $ 5.00 to launch a non-motorized watercraft (kayak, canoe, water board or paddleboard) from the Ship Bottom Waterfront Park. The exact ordinance can be viewed at this link.
Water access shouldn't only be for the wealthy! NJ towns already charge beach access fees in the form of beach badges. How can you justify a per use expense from non motorized crafts as anything but a tax?! Shame on you. It's pure greed.

We pay tax dollars to keep the park clean and usable by all. We are also facing an obesity epidemic and charging people to exercise in a park is the most counter productive idea I've heard.

As a former Mayor I understand the need for municipalities to look at revenue. This measure neither makes sense nor is a welcoming act. Charging for the act of entering unguarded waters is neither appropriate nor reasonable. It seems to be a simple effort to grab money

I wouldn't pay it and would for sure go to a free launch site if I was a visitor. There are a TON of options on LBI that are free to launch at. Gotta feel bad for the locals that have used this ramp for years and years to put in at.

This is getting ridiculous. Unless you are helping me put my kayak in the water and taking it out for me, no monies need be exchanged. Didn't know ship bottom owned the bay now!!!

For the non resident owners this is taxation without representation since we are not allowed to vote int he town. But i can vote on where I spend my discretionary dollars.

This fee is ridiculous. Sup, kayaks canoes etc do no harm to the environment. There are parking fees, rental fees, beach fees, enough already.
