Comments: How much will bringing it up to meet safety standards? Also, instead of buying something just in case we may want it later, why not use the funds on something that benefits residents now? A better option is to use the money to develop the Airport Industrial Park!!

Comments: I took the time to thank Jay Dixon for his 'nay' vote Friday, in Market of Choice. Although it seems like it would be 'neat' to have train service between Eugene and Corvallis, if it were to occur it should be privately funded. The current owners couldn't make it 'pencil' with the freight customers, there's no way to make it come close with passengers. And it would tie up a $500,000 purchase for years until it MIGHT become something feasible. To return it to a useful purpose would take MUCH more that the half million spent to purchase it. Besides, who would purchase that property anyway at this point? Are there others interested in the purchase- and what use would they have with that land? What legally could they do with it? Really, the last thing we need to do with limited funds is to spend 5% of funds available for really important projects on a 'pipe dream'.

Comments: The Federal Gov't is in debt to the tune of Trillions. The State of Oregon is in debt by Billions. Benton County also has budget shortfalls, as does the city of Corvallis. We taxpayers have had enough. STOP THE SPENDING!

Comments: I'm retired from the railroad and have worked on that line for about25 years. I see this a a huge waste of money. It is not worth saving. That is why the railroad abandoned it and for the county to waste 500,000 when they are cutting critical services is not being responsible. Mr. Dixon is all over this and rightly so.

Comments: This is remeniscient of the city councilors of Salem purchasing the Union Street railroad bridge for $1, in order to use it as a pedestrian bridge. Of course, millions of taxpayer dollars later they accomplished it, after repairs and removal of lead based paint. These government bureaucrats always find it easy to spend OPM (Other People's Money) on fiscally irresponsible projects such as these. Obviously, our Benton County Commissioners are no different.
