The Village of Lake Barrington, Illinois, a community unique in its countryside character and open spaces. “The residents of Lake Barrington deserve a lot of credit for their strong will and vision to keep our community among the most charming and beautiful places to live in Illinois,” said Kevin Richardson, Lake Barrington Village President. -2007, Lake Barrington website.

That was then, and this is now, things have really changed. What is now envisioned by our village officials as countryside character, charming and beautiful, is a "MEGA" Speedway gas station, welcoming thousands of travelers, 24 hours a day, to the gateway of our community.

Join us in stopping the proposed construction of a "MEGA" Speedway Gas Station, open 24 hours, 20 filling stations, 35 parking spaces, semi-truck parking, 4600 sq. ft. convenience store, alcohol sales until 2am., and a multi-bay car wash. This is the largest station format Speedway has, and our village officials are considering this as the best choice for retail development, and the gateway to Lake Barrington.

This type of business brings traffic problems and crime to the community, as well as potentially causing massive environmental damage to our well water, wetlands, and air, harming people and wildlife. Chemicals in gasoline, like Benzene, stored in under ground storage tanks, and dispensed thousands of times daily, are very toxic and can cause Cancer, Leukemia, Reproductive Harm, and other Blood Disorders. We cannot afford the risks associated with a business like this. Protecting our Water, our Air, and the Community of Lake Barrington, should always be the number one concern of our elected village leaders.

Let's make sure they get the message, help our trustees make the right decision, "Stop Speedway". Please sign this petition showing your support. Thank you, The Concerned Residents of Lake Barrington
