Comments: we have got to stop these knee jerk reactions to tragic events that have happened in this country. I am tired of hearing about how our rights are slowly being degraded by our government. The government is supposed to fear the people, not the other way around.

Comments: I can't connect the dots on how this addresses crime, or public safety. Looks like a first step to confiscation. I don't support it, and will fight it. My right to own firearms will not be infringed.

Comments: What anyone owns is none of the government's business. A $100 dollar tax on each firearm? Do you think that poor people have less rights to defend themselves? Why don't you go after the criminals who obtain firearms through unlawful means, and stop trying to disarm law abiding private citizens. The right to self preservation is our own duty, and the government has no authority to restrict our ability to do so.

Comments: I personally don't own a gun nor do i want to but it disgusts me when the state "claims" to be looking out for the safety of the citizens....WHILE CHARGING A FEE FOR IT....its like the seat belt laws...they didnt give a rat's ass about the people's safety, they did it for the income....get real..if they really were safety oriented there would be no cost for registering a gun.....

Comments: This law is unconsitutional. It is illegal to approve a "tax' on our second amendment. This state should be ashamed of itself! Where are the jobs? Where is the business? Instead the focous is gay marriage, gun control, plastic bags and dogs in cars? Who are you people? What the hell are you doing there! GET PEOPLE JOBS AND YOU WILL GET PEOPLE OFF THE STREET AND GUESS WHAT? THE STATE MIGHT HAVE MORE REVENUE!

Comments: This bill makes no sense. Criminals will pay $100 to register their guns. You will be taxing law abiding citizens for a constitutional right.....soon will we be paying for free speech, religion? What next. I don't have a problem registering guns. No to the fee!!!

Comments: Aside from the many apparent issues with this bill, which include but are not limited to: penalizing law abiding owners of firearms and not those who would use weapons in a dangerous and illegal manner; the additional cost of not only having to register the firearm but also have a safety feature added (which certainly makes it more difficult for lower income families to purchase and legally own a firearm, thus preventing them from exercising their 2nd amendment right); the unintentional negative impact on small businesses that trade in firearms; the fact that law enforcement officers go into any situation assuming that firearms could be a potential complication, which would continue to be the case even if this bill does pass as there will be those who refuse to register their firearm; and the fact that despite the $100 fee, this registration process will likely cost our small state a sizable amount of money, which it does not have; I find that Rhode Island is dysfunctional enough without adding yet more read tape. I find that this bill is all flash-bang and no substance. This piece of legislation appears to be doing something about firearm safety without actually doing anything about firearm safety. This bill wreaks of uninformed good intentions.

Comments: Enforce the laws currently on the books, not implement new laws that hurt law abiding citizens. Tired of seeing criminals arrested, brought into court and they have had prior convictions for gun violations, yet are still on the street commiting more crimes. This has to stop.

Comments: This proposed law in nothing more than a vendetta against sportsmen and law abiding gun owners. This proposal is vague and an insult to tax paying leagle gun owners. RI is really becoming a black hole of overreaching politicians.

Comments: There is constitutional and un- constitutional. This is an example of out right anti- constitional legislation. It also is an example of our fellow citizens who view government as a tool to be used to harass others who have diferent ideas, political views or, ways of life than their own.
