Purbeck View School is a special school for autistic children aged 7-19 and is located in Swanage, Dorset but for some of the more able students it is more institutional than it is for the less able students because the more able students are having to go to a certain place to receive medication and this is unacceptable. The students are having no privacy to apply creams and male members of staff are applying creams to female students which is also unacceptable. Staff give students their medication in order of their first name, surname, from the front of the book, from the back of the book, whether they were on tablets or not, skin conditions i.e. eczema; not which student was ready first and it should be whichever student is ready first. Some students also have their cream applied on the dinner table at mealtimes which is unhygienic. At a takeaway place which serves Southern Fried Chicken, Pizza, Burgers and kebabs, the students were only allowed small chips! Students in 16+ classes do not have a uniform but they have to wear trousers to class in the winter even if they hate it and nobody should be forced/made to wear clothes that they dislike at all and even the staff wear a uniform consisting of a jumper and a polo shirt with the Cambian logo saying 'Purbeck View'. Staff say the names of other student’s medication out loud, even shouting it out loud in front of other students which is very unacceptable. Sometimes students were told that they could only spend the same amount of money in shops like 50p (mainly impossible!) or only buy a certain type of item i.e. food-students must be allowed to spend how much they want. Staff make students eat food they dislike and sometimes staff give the students food that give them an allergic reaction.
