  • Anonymous A letter I wrote to Linda Parelli and Colleen Kelly....

I just HAD to contact you regarding your Rider Biomechanics DVD with Linda Parelli and Colleen Kelly.

When I first heard of rider biomechanics I was very intrigued. Like most people, I am always trying to improve my riding and so I bought the DVD. I could not wait to pop it in and spend 4 hours learning about rider biomechanics.

As a fourth level dressage rider and training with a former Olympian I was shocked at what I was seeing. Four hours of silly banter and information I learned as a beginner rider. How to put your foot in a stirrup? How to turn a horse? How the riders weight effects the direction of the horse? Really? At one point Colleen Kelly says that in the next segment we will take a look at a more advanced horse... The horse was walking on a circle. Why was that horse an advanced horse? I was expecting to see a higher level horse and rider exhibiting how they biomechincly work together in a half pass, canter, passage, piaffe, something. Nope, just a tiny horse walking on a circle.... Let's skip to the end because the entire DVD was a lot of the before mentioned... The last segment was an informational piece with Linda and Colleen. The only information in this piece was about how they met, Colleen's necklace and them complimenting each other on their accomplishments! I wish this DVD was a representation of the those accomplishments. It's nice to compliment people but I did not spend $159 to listen to how good they think each other is, I wanted to see it, and this DVD did not deliver! You could have shared this information in less than 30 minutes for less than $30....

The goal of this video is clear. The clinicians do not know much about making an instructional video and used the "Parelli" name to sell yet another useless product. I strongly believe in natural horsemanship and it is a very big part of my training. Pat and Linda should take some lessons from Buck Brannaman and put more focus on natural horsemanship and less on selling whatever they can to naive and oblivious horse lovers and owners. I am fortunate that money isn't an issue for me, but others pay a lot of their hard earned money to learn. Stop taking advantage of them and if you have REAL knowledge to give, give it and stop wasting their time and money.

IF YOU ARE NEW TO HORSES OR DON'T HAVE MUCH TRIANING -BEWARE!! YOU ARE THEIR TARGET MARKET. LOOK UP BUCK BRANNAMAN. I DONT KNOW HIM AND HAVE NO AGENDA FOR HIM, I JUST KNOW HE IS THE ONLY ONE YOU SHOULD LISTEN TO WHEN IT COMES TO NATURAL HORSEMANSHIP! THEN LOOK UP PAT PARERLLI AND CANDID AND WATCH LINDA GIVING THIS LESSON ON YOUTUBE - HORRIFYING!!! AND LINDA, NO MATTER WHAT THE SITUATION TO OVERCOME - THIS METHOD SHOULD NEVER BE USED!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xIjDkqkNXFw WATCH AND FORM YOUR OWN OPINION....

3 years ago Comments: I was always slightly uncomfortable with with commercial nature of Parelli and have just returned from spectating at a two day clinic near High Wycombe. I was shocked and appalled at what I saw. A horse being walked sideways around a tarpauline for no less than two hours and then beaten with the carrot stick for getting too close to the guy when "playing the squeeze game" next to it. He later punched and slapped the horse for not understanding a sideways movement. There were young girls watching this clinic - I dread to think what they will now see as acceptable. Absolutely disgusting.
