When balloons are released into the sky they eventually burst and return to earth as litter. They can travel hundreds of miles.Balloons are harmful to sea turtles and dolphins when they mistaken them for jellyfish, a favorite food. When injested the balloons have proven to kill many of them or make them very sick. Birds have alos become entangled in the string attached to the balloons. The practice of balloon release has been an acceptable form of celebration for too long. Now that we understand and can see the damage it does to our wildlife, it needs to stop and people need to be educated on the harm it causes.
