We the undersigned call upon Governor Andrew Cuomo to insure that any legislation to restructure LIPA include language that will protect the taxpayers of our Town by requiring that LIPA, and all others, abandon all existing Tax Certiorari proceedings against The Town of Huntington. Failure to include this language will expose the residents and businesses of our community to unprecedented real property tax increases. In accordance with the Agreement made at the time that LIPA was formed, there has been no increase in the assessment of the Northport Power Station for over twenty years; nonetheless, LIPA is now seeking over $270 million in refunds from the Town. If LIPA is successful, real property taxes in our School District will increase by almost 60% and other residents of our Town will faces property tax increases of over 15%. This will devastate our community. We call upon the Governor to ensure that his legislation protects our children and our quality of life by requiring LIPA to abandon the Tax Certiorari actions filed in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013.
LIPA should pay more for having those polluting ugly stacks in one of the most beautiful areas of Long Island. Please, spend your money finding better energy sources, or while you are wasting it fighting for this, people like Elon Musk will make your company worthless. Invest in the future, stop fighting the past!
I own a small business in East North port
I own several commercial buildings in East North port
I live in east north port
A tax increase of this magnitude would crush me and my family. I wouldn't be able to live here.
LIPA continues to take and return nothing. They need to be stopped to save the future of LI.
