A day after the U.N.’s symbolic recognition of Palestinian statehood, Israeli Prime Minster Benjamin Netanyahu announced plans of building over 3,400 new homes for Jewish settlers in the West Bank and east Jerusalem, and stated its intention to press ahead with two other projects that separate the West Bank from east Jerusalem, the Palestinians' desired capital. This act would officially cut off current Palestinian settlements as well as dissolve any kind of future agreements towards peace in this region and a two-state solution. Palestinians have called on the U.N. Security Council to officially condemn this act of aggression but when voting upon a similar decision in 2011, the U.S.vetoed the decision to condemn illegal Israeli settlements.
