Stop deep sea drilling!
Texan oil company Anadarko wants to begin deep sea drilling this year off our coasts and if we don’t do something about this there could be a huge risk of all our coast being covered by oil. The reasons this could be a big risk is that they are now planning to drill 1500 meters under water (they used to drill 125 meters)so there is a big risk of the pressure building up so much that it explodes if this happens thousands of barrels of oil could flow into the sea everyday. Also if we wanted overseas help they would take weeks to arrive.
If we don’t take action soon all our beachers, and native animals will be a risk. The two place Anadarko wants to aim at is the west coast of the north island and east coast of the south island. this picture below show you what would happen if there was oil spills on these coastlines of New Zealand
Some possible solution to this issue would be to use clean energy. Instead of drilling in our waters and putting our shores at risk consider investing in clean energy such as wind energy, solar energy, water energy.Clean energy
By signing this petition you are sending a clear message to Anadarko that they are not welcome to drill in our waters and they can use clean energy in this country.with all the signatures I receive the plan is to send an e-mail to the government and Anadarko’s company that explains how YOU feel about the deep sea drilling!don’t forget to got to ww.greenpeace.org/new-zealand/en/take-action/take-action-online/message-to-anadarko/ to take ferther action
