Cyber bullying is when a person uses the Internet and other technologies to deliberately & repeatedly harm other people in a hostile manner. Cyber bullying is becoming more common and it needs to be taken more seriously. By signing this petition you are not only increasing our chances at having defined laws and procedures for cyber bullying, but you are helping in supporting and protecting victims as well. You could potentially help save a life. Victims of cyber bullying typically have lower self-esteem, increased suicide ideation and often respond to the abuse through very scary and often dangerous emotions. For example: retaliation, fear, frustration, anger, and depression. These emotions are damaging to the victim as they typically begin to avoid friends and family, as well as their daily activities. These are often the exact intentions of the cyber-bully. .  There are many examples of teenagers in the United States where cyber-bullying has resulted with the victim committing suicide. One is too many. Please sign this petition to show your support for the victims who are being bullied now and for the victims we have lost because they were pushed too far! Please do not confuse the laws against cyber bullying with other harrassment laws in Vermont. There are currently only laws to protect cyber bullying in schools in Vermont, but Students and children ARE NOT the only victims. There needs to be a defined law for adults as well as clear procedures to deal with the bullying!!!!
