As a citizen and taxpayer of the State of Tennessee, I petition the Governor, the State Board of Education, the State School Superintendent, and the Tennessee General Assembly to take every action necessary to rescind the state’s participation in Race to the Top, the Common Core State Standards Initiative, any agreement to share student data with the federal government or any other governmental or private entity, any national-testing consortium, and any scheme (such as No Child Left Behind waivers) that requires such participation. Tennessee’s citizens, who pay approximately $8 billion annually in state and local taxes for education, have the constitutional right to exercise 100 percent control over the content standards in our public schools through our duly elected representatives in the Tennessee Senate and the Tennessee House.

Gov Haslam on Common Core
He states "Common Core has been proven to work."
Really? Where? Since they are so obsessed with data, "Show us the Data." It doesn't exist. Common Core was never piloted or tested. Anywhere.
Common core takes a small idea which could be good for a few students, in a few subjects, and expands it to an absurd degree. The main skill (Rearranging a text which has been carefully expurgated of controversial and thought provoking ideas) will not inspire students, it will only bore them. Though it may be a reasonable approach to teaching students to write research papers, it will not be effective in teaching them science facts, math skills, or artistic creativity. Furthermore, since the texts which I have seen so far are rife with grammatical errors and are generally poorly written, we are likely to reduce the ability of students to recognize errors. I foresee declining TCAP scores. I also foresee officials blaming declining TCAP scores on the students, the parents, or even the teachers - but never on this stupidity.
I am disappointed with my child's education under Common Core. I have watched my her excitement about school and passion for learning dwindle to practically nothing since common core standards and methods were implemented. Each morning starts with tears as she dreads another day of endless scripted writing and formulaic analyzing. She's bored, uninspired, exhausted, and stifled. My child's education should be so much more than this.
Common core is not size fits all program.my son is the 3rd grade . He had been a straight A student since he started school the first grade period of this year he had alot of problems with the new common core. So i took him out of public school.and will not put him back unless it changes. If not he will stay in private school.
