As a citizen and taxpayer of the State of New York, I petition the Governor, the State Board of Education, the State School Superintendent, and the New York General Assembly to take every action necessary to rescind the State’s participation in Race to the Top, the Common Core State Standards, any agreement to share student data with the federal government or any other governmental or private entity, any national-testing consortium , and any scheme (such as No Child Left Behind waivers) that requires such participation. New York’s citizens, who pay approximately $13 billion annually in state and local taxes for education, have the constitutional right to exercise 100 percent control over the content standards in our public schools through our duly elected representatives in the New York Senate and the New York House.
I have two children in high school and these changes to the curriculum because of common core are killing their grades. You can't change the way kids learn and test midstream!!
At the very least I would like to see 1. The common core state standards lowered to a reasonable level consistant with the history of the US Education system.
2. The sharing of student data with any government or private entity to cease.
this is not fair to children, my daughter;s avergae is school is 89.0 and your telling me if she fails this test she has to got summer school?, kids cant even enjoy school anymore, it all about the state test!
