Stop Common Core in New York State

As a citizen and taxpayer of the State of New York, I petition the Governor, the State Board of Education, the State School Superintendent, and the New York General Assembly to take every action necessary to rescind the State’s participation in Race to the Top, the Common Core State Standards, any agreement to share student data with the federal government or any other governmental or private entity, any national-testing consortium , and any scheme (such as No Child Left Behind waivers) that requires such participation. New York’s citizens, who pay approximately $13 billion annually in state and local taxes for education, have the constitutional right to exercise 100 percent control over the content standards in our public schools through our duly elected representatives in the New York Senate and the New York House.

  • Brian Barrey Common Core is age inappropriate, a corporate backed plan to undermine the public school system, and is only being implemented to privatize education and line the pockets of the corporate backers.

3 days ago Comments: Being a resident of NY and a 9th grade student, I can tell you from a direct point of view how pointless and unreasonable the Common Core is. I fear the future of participating states with our new learning standers. The Common Core does not teach children any logical way to do math nor will it help us in the future. This is not only unnecessary, it puts stress on students and is the reason that A+ students are now failing. The Common Core should not exist in any school district that hopes for their students to be successful.
