Did you know that animal testing is actually legal all around the world, including in the UK? I thought not. Even though many products assure us that they have not been produced using animal testing, what about the ones which don't say this? It may be that some of these products' manufacturers just can't be bothered to add a notice, but the fact remains that over 100 million animals are used in experiments each year - that's over 274,000 a day. People might argue that animals feel no pain - it's not true. Animals are used in experiments that leave them with disfigurements, disabilities and disorders which cause them either immense pain for the rest of their lives, a slow, painful death, or a quick one. Death is the best option. Animals are chosen specifically to test certain drugs on - but not for the right reasons. Rabbits are chosen to experiment on using eye drugs because they have no tears to wash the drug away - or the pain. Dogs are often used for experiments as they are so trusting - so can be easily taken advantage of. As if to add insult to injury, this suffering is for nothing. It is pointless. Animals react so differently to drugs compared to us that many possibly useful drugs have been discarded, and many 'useful' drugs have proved toxic to humans. Researchers have tried to overcome this by using species closer to us, such as monkeys, to test on by kidnapping them from their families in the wild, but even these have vital differences in DNA. The only species that will provide correct results is humans. So. Not only is animal testing cruel, it's also misguiding, pointless and dangerous. Keen volunteers with diseases offer themselves for research, but many are turned down in favour of simulating diseases such as cancer in innocent animals. Together, we can stop this horrendous form of animal cruelty. Together, we can help save the lives of millions of defenceless animals. But we need your help.
