Bank of America is bad for St. Louis communities. It has peddled predatory loans to St. Louis residents and then fraudulently and unjustly foreclosed on their homes. In July 2011 alone, a foreclosure action was taken against 1 in 81 houses in St. Louis County--considered to be a "high foreclosure rate" by RealtyTrac, the largest database of foreclosure, auction and bank-owned homes in the country. Many blocks throughout the city contain multiple foreclosed homes that stand vacant. The effects of foreclosures reverberate throughout blocks, neighborhoods, and the city at large. It is time for the St. Louis Board of Aldermen to take a stand against Bank of America. By choosing to divest city funds from Bank of America, the alderman can communicate that they stand with the people of St. Louis, not big Wall Street banks. They can choose to take St. Louis taxpayer money and put it in local St. Louis banks that lend to small businesses and individuals in just ways. Sign this petition if you think it is time for the St. Louis Board of Aldermen to join with St. Louis residents in telling Bank of America that they will no longer tolerate unjust and predatory financial policies.
