4002 David BourkeI Was taking stilnox tablets for about 7 weeks last year, when my wife brought a third party to our marriage. I stabbed her several times and she died as a result of her wounds. I am now facing a charge of murder as a result and my life is in ruins. i believe that stilnox had a powerful influence on my personality at this time and would like to see it banned completely.

4023 AnonymousMy brother sadly took his life in 2005. Stilnox was found in his system at the time of his death. He had only started taking Stilnox a few months prior to his death.
4024 Paul HirstI have had an EXTREMELY BAD reaction to stilnox. In January of 2008 I crashed my car into a power pole and severly damaged my car. I had taken an antihistamine called phenergen earlier. I took a silnox tablet and went to bed as uaual. Then next thing I remember is airbags going off in my car. It appears I had consumed alcohol which I do not know where it I obtained it as I has none in the house before I went to bed. I have no recollection of how I got it . consuming it or driving my car. I have no memory of police, ambulance, or firies being at the accident scene. I have no memory of any of it apart from the airbags deploying and siting on the kerb beside my car. The next thing I remember is being in hospital with a neck brace on. This medication is scary stuff and SHOULD BE BANNED. I am extremely fortunate that I did not kill myself or anyone else. This week I had my charge of drink driving dropped in the Brisbane Magistrates Court . With the evidence that the blood sample taken for the alcohol level contained stilnox. The medical report for the police concluded that It was a real posibility that I was infact SLEEP DRIVING and it was an involuntary act. On that basis the police decided not to proceed with the charges. The Magistrate dismissed the charges. I PLEAD with people to help increase the awareness of the HORRIBLE dangers of taking stilnox and its side affects. I also plead with doctors to stop perscibing it. After all that had happened to me and my family in the past 6 months I now armed with the knowledge that this medication SHOULD BE TAKEN OFF THE MARKET before more people are seriously hurt of killed. I am a stronger person having gone through this but still wish it all had not ever happened at all. Thank you Paul Hirst
4025 Keith SmithA friend of mine was last week dishcarged absolutely in the Brisbane Magitrates Court on a charge of drink driving (bac 0.154). This arose from a single vehicle acccident in which he as driver collided with a power pole. Damage to car and pole extensive $28,000, fortunately no injuries. His defence against the charge was that he had consumed a botle of wine after taking stilnox and was sleep driving. Both the drinking and driving were whown to be unintentional supported by expert medical evidence by highly experienced and respected expert on the adverse effects of stilnox. This evidence could not be rebutted by the Prosecution's own medical expert. The power pole could have been another vehicle or pedestrians and death or serious injury could have occurred. It could have been another unexplained fatal traffic accident. My friend had initially intended pleading guilty having no knowlede of the adverse history of stilnox in similar events. Fortunately I had some knowledge and together we pur together his defence. Another dire warning on the dangers of this drug. This incident did receive media coverage in Brisbane last week.
4026 AnonymousPlease, please ban this drug. My sister is highly addicted to the europheric state it induces when 'fighting' the sleeping affect of this so called sleeping pill. She engages in very dangerous, self harming behaviour. From a family who is very sad and very worred ever day. PLEASE BAN THIS DRUG.

4042 Karen McDonnellOnce drugs are licensed for use, they should be independently monitored for side effects as no drug company can do the level of 'human trials' that occurs when doctors start prescribing drugs to ordinary people.
4043 Scott PowellI was on Stilnox between Aug '03 and Jul '05. During that time I lost my marriage, my business, and access to my daughter. I lost memories, was disoriented, couldn't think logically, etc. (and I tried to commit suicide)

4048 LauraI read about Mairead's preventable 'passing' & was compelled to sign this petition. A young woman making goals and having plans doesnt just take her life one day/ all of a sudden for no reason... She was taking above mentioned drugs, though...
