Comments: My beautiful youngest sister died four months ago as a direct result of taking Stilnox (zolpidem) and its 'close cousin' Imovane (zopiclone). I also personally know two other families who have lost loved ones because of Stilnox, and have several friends who've taken this drug and experienced serious adverse reactions. My sister died after falling from the cycleway approach to the Sydney Harbour Bridge, while in a drug-induced sleepwalking state (confirmed by much evidence, including CCTV footage and post-mortem toxicology results, which showed Stilnox and no other drugs or alcohol present in her system at the time of her death). My sister had been suffering from insomnia for a number of months, in the lead-up to the completion of her PhD thesis, and had been prescribed Stilnox and Imovane by her doctors, in an attempt to address her sleeping difficulties. She was prescribed these drugs by her doctor for far longer than the recommended

Comments: My 30 year old sister died in September 2007 as a direct result of sleepwalking after being prescribed Stilnox and Imovane. Since her death and through much research, we have discovered some alarming facts about this prescription drug. Everybody seems to have a story related to adverse reactions. Changing the classification is NOT ENOUGH!! This drug needs to be banned completely before more innocent lives are lost. This is an issue which I feel also has a detrimental effect to the community at large, especially as some cases show unusual behaviours of violence when in the sleep-induced state. Please advise the TGA that it is NOT acceptable to have this drug, which is administered to millions of people per year worldwide, available.

Comments: I have had horrific experiences with this drug personally and I would like to see this drug completely banned. How many more people have to die and how many more families have to be destroyed before this drug is banned!

Comments: i find it incredible that such action by the public is needed to bring such moves to protect the public. To much false trust is placed in the medical profession when prescribing these medications.

Comments: Our daughter's tragic death gives rise to a number of questions. Here are just a couple. With so much evidence of their dangerous and in some cases fatal side effects, why in God's name are medications like zolpidem and zopiclone left on the market How can one find out if those doctors prescribing them (which in my opinion they should not be) are giving adequate warnings to patients - and are closely monitoring their effects, especially on those who may have a particular susceptibility to certain types of medication Our family has lost a most precious daughter and sister. Her friends have lost someone they greatly cherished. The community has lost a young woman who had every prospect of making a significant contribution to this country.

Comments: I have also heard about these claims on 2day FM. In particular Jacqui O on the breakfast show has indicated that a fire started in her apartment due to sleep cooking on Stilnox.

Comments: watching a friend lose her sister to this drug (mairead costigan) and how much pain their family has gone through, not to mention many other families this drug should be re-scheduled or even pulled off the market

Comments: My niece's husband died as a result of taking Stilnox, her family friend's daughter died as a result of taking Stilnox. Every person I have mentioned this drug to, who has had anything to do with it has reported an adverse reaction. The official reporting mechanism doesn't seem to work.

Comments: I crashed my car (sleep-driving) after consuming Stlnox. I entered a state of "amnesic automatism" (sleep-walking with no memory), a side-effect now associated with Stilnox consumption. I wrote off my car and a power pole, had cracked ribs, lacerations and soft dissue injuries. How can a TGA approved medicine actually state in the product information leaflet that it can and may cause "sleep-driving", I mean they might as well say it can and may cause you to jump off a cliff or shoot someone, I fail to see the difference. When will the Health Dept. and TGA stand up and listen to Stilnox victims How many more people have to be injured or die an unnecessary death
