Name: Amanda Reed on Apr 10, 2010Comments: I grew up in St Germans, attended church, sang in the choir and rang the bells every Sunday when Richard Maynard was a great vicar there. The church was the centre of the community and we akways attended events in the church or organised by the church. I object to the closure of such a beautiful and historical building and I am convinced that the congregation would come flooding back and the community would once again be centred around the church, if onky a decent and dedicated vicar was there. I also object to Alec Johnston using my mum's name, Eve 'Deer', to write his stupid comments on this website. You're supposed to be a man of God, not a 4 year old throwing a trantrum!Flag

Name: Evelyn Reed on May 5, 2010Comments: There is a misconception that placing the church in the hands of the Conservation Trust means that nothing will change in the church and it will be maintained for future generations. That may be the case but the big change is that it will no longer be a church where regular worship can take place and a Christian community can grow. We are told that baptisms, weddings and funerals may still take place plus six services a year. My understanding is that the six services include weddings, funerals and baptisms and as four funerals have already been held this year this does not leave much scope for regular worship. Also a wedding will cost in the region of £1000 by the time each interested party has been paid. Whatever the truth of the situation is the church will still not be a vital part of the village once placed with the CCT. When changes are made I am sure that there will be a steady return to regular worship at the church.Flag
