Comments: I grew up spending my holidays in St Germans and going with Joan Ball to do the flowers in the church. It is a stunning building with an unrivalled history. It seems amazing that you could even consider closing the original catherdral of Cornwall. The church is an oasis and with the grave of the giant and other curiosities it's a unique church. I would love so much to be married there one day.

Comments: I have visited and worshipped in St Germans Church many times over the last 40 years. I am a Quaker - but have always found the the atmosphere one of profound peace and healing. In addition it has rich historic significance as the original 'cathedral' for Cornwall and the west country. I would be interested to read the reasoning behind this shortsighted proposal.

Comments: It should not be the prerogative of a small number of people, i.e.the PCC of St Germans Group Parish, most of whom do not live in St Germans and who have very little to do with the church, to put forward this proposal. Neither should it be possible for the priest-in-charge to close the church when he has been the cause of the significant drop in numbers and consequent poor financial input. St Germans used to have a thriving and happy congregation and people who have worshipped at the church, served in it, cared for it, and given freely of their time and money for decades, (and for some for all of their lives) do NOT make the very painful decision to leave without very good reason.

Comments: I think it's appalling that it has even been suggested that this church be closed - from once having a sizable and active congregation it has now been reduced to a handful of people under the present vicar. All that this church requires is a change of leadership to bring people back.

Comments: I attended this church as a child and, although I no longer live in the area, it would be a very great shame if such an important and beautiful building were left to deteriorate and fall into disrepair. I am sure with the right considerations, the church could be made a popular place of worship and visitation once again.

Comments: I lived in the area of St Germans church for nearly 40 years, and although I am not what would be classed as a religious person, I was proud of the church and what it did for the community. The two vicars previous to Mr Johnson were very helpful, kind and sympathetic to the local people unlike Mr. Johnson who has succeded in splitting the community and putting the very church itself (St Germans) in jeopardy. It is about time that Mr Johnson's attitude to St Germans and the reason for the drop in church attendance was properly investigated

Comments: We loved this Church when we went to our daughter's Confirmation in 1997. The regular worshippers made us so welcome. There was a very peaceful, spiritual and uplifting atmosphere in the Church. We find it hard to believe what has happened. It would be a tragedy if a beautiful church like this, with all its history, was closed.

Comments: Dear Silly Petition Sponsor You did not support it - so why is it suddenly so important to you? It will still be possible for you to offer your prayers there as you presumably have over the years. Your tone suggests bitterness, anger and hatred - focussed on the parish Priest and the current PCC who you left in charge by not being an active player! No point in grumbling after the event!! Comments: This is a petition and as such should be signed only by those who agree with the petition wording which is neither misleading nor misinformed. The church WILL be closed for its one main purpose - that of regular public worship - (6 services a year does not constitute regular worship). This is what the church was built for and what it has successfully achieved for the last 1000 years. Those who sign this petition believe there are alternative options which should be explored before closure is considered. Whilst the sponsor understands that this issue raises strong feelings on both sides, those whose comments oppose this petition will be deleted because they obviously would not wish to be included in the count as agreeing with it. However, they are perfectly entitled to express their views by creating their own forum for discussion or setting up a petition in favour of their proposed closure. Wishing you all, whatever your views,a very Happy and Blessed Easter.
