Name: Eleanor Estes on Jun 14, 2010Comments: We, who have been supervising schooling for a number of years, are insulted at having to become certified to do what we have been doing all along for USEF. I refuse to become certified as a schooling supervisor.Flag

Name: Bridget Imparato on Jun 14, 2010Comments: I feel that I already hold a R Jumper card and a R Steard's card and I am very comfortable with my knowledge of the Junper schooling rules...this new license requirement is insulting and feels a bit like the USEF extorting funds from the licensed officials that already hold a license and have recieved training in this areaFlag

Name: Wayne Shepard on Jun 15, 2010Comments: It appears to be that the proposed solution to a problem area, is worse than the initial problem. If there are stewards that are weak on schooling rules for Jumpers, then make a program to include with the regular Steward Clinic. Ask some schooling fence questions on the exam each Steward takes. As so often happens at the USEF, issues that present themself to the east coast and west coast shows, are made the problem for all shows without regard to location, size, or finance.Flag

Name: Jayme Harris on Jun 15, 2010Comments: At this rate, we'll need to get a license for checking bits (certified bit inspector); tack (certified leather inspector), shoes (certified shoe inspector), tails (certified butt inspectors). . .where does it end? If it's a problem, then incorporate it into our clinics . . . wasn't so much as mentioned at my last one.Flag

Name: John Boyle on Jun 15, 2010Comments: to consider some licences as qualified for automatic approval a because of FEI status and USEF licences as non-qualified is very insulting to the individuals as well as to USEF's licencsing process. The cost or additional investment a steward or judge would have to make vs. the return in fees to acquire the license doesn't seem to be warranted. As for the sows do they really need to be adding to required overhead when show revenues continue to slide?Flag

Name: William (Bill) Joyce on Jun 15, 2010Comments: I have been licensed since the 70's with both the Stewards and Jumper Judges licenses to now learn that I must need get certified and take an expensive trip to Lexington to learn about schooling fences. After having done years of major horse shows, including a world cup I am insulted at the suggestion. I for one have no intention nor interest in the USEF's new method to qualify as a Schooling Supervisor and will continue on as the simple Steward & Judge.Flag

Name: Raizy Goffman on Jun 16, 2010Comments: It is insulting that after 30 years of Stewarding and Jumper Judging, the USEF thinks I need yet another certification to do the job I have already been doing. One of the only 2 Training Stewards on the West Coast isn't even doing another Level 5 Show until late Fall, so how are all the West Coast Stewards supposed to get certified?Flag

Name: Barbara Zellner on Jun 16, 2010Comments: Appears the requirements for certification are extensive, time consuming and expensive for applicants. Additional training can be obtained at the required C1 steward and jumper judge clinics, and I recommend that procedure be used.Flag

Name: Peggy Fackrell on Jun 16, 2010Comments: This is ridiculous. The biggest part of a steward's job is monitoring the schooling rings. We have all been doing this since we were licensed. This is a hell of a time to decide we don't know what we were doing. I will just remain a plain Judge, Steward, thank you anywayFlag

Name: Eric Noel on Jun 17, 2010Comments: While I have no problem with the requirement that schooling supervisors receive training, that training already has been, and is currently being provided to licensed Category 1 Stewards and Jumper Judges. Furthermore their expertise in that regard has been challenged by written testing. To subject those individuals to a separate and redundant certification process makes no more sense than to require a Jumper Judge to obtain a separate license for each Table he judges, or to require a Steward to obtain a separate license to measure ponies. The USEF should exempt licensed C-1 Stewards and Jumper Judges from the requirement of further certification as Schooling Supervisors.Flag

Name: Carol Dean-Porter on Jun 29, 2010Comments: I have been a "R" judge for many years, in addition to showing at all levels in the Jumper division for many years. I already took the required classroom training session and completed my one day practical exam and DO NOT CONSIDER IT AN INSULT IN ANY WAY. There are plenty of opportunities for interested parties to complete the requirements in a timely manner. The cost is 30.00 for the license. I do not believe this is a hardship to any Licensed Official. I have NO objection to this program, even though FEI licensed Stewards are already automatically included I am signing this petition because I do not think it is necessary and that it adds to the paper work and record keeping required of the USEF office staffFlag

Name: Barbara L. Stitt on Jul 9, 2010Comments: I have officiated and also acted as Schooling Supervisor at several Competitions, with both a Grand Prix and classes in excess of $ 10,000.00. Also, at many competitions I have continuously observed jumper & hunter schooling areas, even when the prize money did not dictate having a supervisor in position.Flag

Name: Robyn Eden on Jul 12, 2010Comments: I have been a CCR steward since the 80's and been a schooling supervisor for many classes with prize money from $10,000 through $25,000. I definitely believe in continuous education and welcome additional training incorporated into mandatory stewards' clinics. There is always more to learn. However, the new licensing procedure is NOT easy for everyone -- I was already booked, as were many stewards, when the original dates were announced last spring. It does appear that this fits an agenda for a small group of people and does not take advantage of what could be done on-line or in stewards' clinics to further education.Flag
