If those clay courts are paved over, they will be gone forever. It's like replacing a Victorian shotgun with a prefab house.Flag

Name: Gerald W. Billes, AIA on Mar 24, 2008Comments: I have played at the Stern tennis courts for years. The courts have become a place for a very diverse number of New Orleans residents to play. There are plenty of hard courts in the City already and not enough soft surfaces. The clay surface is easier on the legs and joints than hard surfaces and should be maintained as such. I oppose the new self-centered proposal and hope the money already available to renovate the facility, will be used to revitalize the courts and buildings. Prior to Katrina, the courts were well used and if proper funds are spent, the facility will remain a viable part of our community.Flag

If anyone, the ATA New Orleans group or Schumacher plan, begins to operate Stern Tennis Center again they should provide a FREE YEAR ROUND tennis camp for youths as Stern provided many years before Katrina.Flag

Name: Brooks Hamaker on Jun 13, 2008Comments: I have more than an average interest in this, as my house backs up to the ONE hard court which is actually located across the street behind the parking lot(unplayable-will have to be redone if wanted). This facility is important to the neighborhood, and needs to remain clay for the reasons stated so well by the above signers. Also, hopefully, as it has lights, it will be available for a longer playing period than the REDICULOUS and idiosyncratic hours kept at Audubon Pk (which is a really nice place, but not the most conveniently operated). Please, let's get this together soon. We need the courts.Flag
