Name: James W. Baker III on Mar 13, 2008Comments: This facility should be preved for all groups. The Atkinson/Stern Center has been the home for a large number of tennis users. Mr. Atkinson created a home where we now only enjoyed playing but enjoyed each others company.Flag

Name: Austin Penny on Mar 13, 2008Comments: Atkinson/Stern Tennis Center has been a clay facility since 1925. Let's keep it that way. At one time it served the tennnis needs of whites only even though the residential neighborhood surrounding the facility was predominately Black. When Nehemiah Atkinson was the Center Director, he created an atmosphere for all people to enjoy learning and playing tennis. He also fostered a booster club of active, concerned adults whohave continued to advocate for improvmenets ot the facility. In addition, Atkinson/Stern served as the place for many young kids in the surrounding to lean and play tennis. Many, if not most of these kids, had never picked up a tennis racket prior to taking lessons at Atkinson/Stern. The facility has and continues to serve a very diverse community of adult tennis players who appreciate the clay courts, and a provides program for young community kids tolearn the game of tennis.Flag

Name: J. Anthony Snorgrass on Mar 13, 2008Comments: I am compelled to believe that this historic facility truly and singularly represents New Orleans congeniality at its best. For me a visit to New Orleans is not a real visit unless it takes me to Stern at least once. It is my hope that one day in the future I will get to return to KC to boast of my unabashed victories at Stern. So, keep the facility ALIVE! Ive still got some business to take care of.Flag

Name: Lisa Robinson on Mar 13, 2008Comments: It would be a shame to get rid of something that has already been a part of a summer junior development program. It has been stressed a number of times by commentators of the lack of skills that Americans have on clay or soft courts. Getting rid of them would just add more to the difficulty of actually developing an all court game for young, up and coming players. Please allow stern to remain in the same form. It is also good for the knees over the summer.Flag

Name: Frances Bowie on Mar 14, 2008Comments: I am in support of Stern Tennis Center remaining a place for everyone who loves and enjoys the game. Stern Tennis Center has always, and will continue to look after its youth programs. To be prepared for today's game, juniors need to be comfortable on surfaces, hence, this NORD facility "Atkinson Sterns Tennis Center needs to remain a community of rubio courts.Flag

Name: Octave Weber on Mar 14, 2008Comments: The Stern Tennis Center provides a quality facility for youth tennis, as well as for older adults for whom the clay courts are benefcial because of physical stress related injuries that are caused by hard courts. Also youth tennis benefits by giving the youths clay court experience.Flag

Name: George Baker on Mar 14, 2008Comments: Contrary to the position of some, there is an on-going national discussion regarding the great need for American youths to have more experiences in clay court play. Note the recent (20 year experiences of Americans in the French Open and other international clay court play.Flag
