Comments: It's simply a travesty...one which should have never happened. When innocent people go to prison because they protected themselves from harm, something is very wrong with our system of justice.

Comments: Although Mr Armstrong used his car against the attackers, I think this is a travesty to the legal system. Mr Armstrong was attacked and his property vandalised and the attackers should have been given sentences.

Comments: Victims don't seem to have any rights. He was the victim - the lout was the one who instigated the violence and should have been prepared for any injury he received doing it, whether it was with fists, or any other means.

Comments: Too many law breakers are getting too much protection these days.... and the victims seem to get punished for it one way or another.... I am of the opinion of if you break the law you deserve what you get... it's the victims who should get the protection and help...

Comments: I have already written to the Evening times in Glasgow right after this sentence was announced. The Judge had great discretionary powers based upon all the facts of this tragic case and she had a chance to strike back for the good people in life. She took the safe look after my own job route and the whole country is or should be in uproar. I bet if Mr Armstrong pled not guilty no jury worth their salt would have found him guilty because we are all sick of the neds ruling the roost. Now we have a family of 10 destroyed 8 young kids and 2 parents life in tatters because he choose to stand up to the neds, If anyone game near my house and family with a knife and a baton i would run him over several times until he no longer posed a threat to me or anyone else in the immediate future The law is such a joke and sentencing such a farce that no-one has any faith in it any longer, we will see more people taking the law into their own hands unless the law and the judges get their act together. Today in the paper a ned stabs a man 9 times and faced the same charge as Mr Armstrong and he gets 4 years(4 month more for a deliberate pre-meditated attack on an innocent member of the public, this means he will serve two months more than a man protecting the rights of his and other families to live without fear of attack. This sentence must be reduced to the most lenient possible under the law as it does not reflect the wishes of the people and is not in any way in the interest of the people. This man must be returned to his family with minimal delay... many thanks r pollock

Comments: I'd probably have done much the same thing if faced with a knife wielding attacker who'd just smashed in my car window and who was threatening further assault. Mr Armstrong should be freed immediately and applauded for standing up for the safety of himself and his family against a violent thug.

Comments: Please, for the love of God, three and a half years is too much for a man who was being assaulted! This can only invite other gang members to assault your citizens. Please, Stephen Armstrong is not guilty of anything but self-defense. No jail time for him, please, in the name of truth and justice.

Comments: im horrified to here of this miscarriage of our justice system. we already feel unsafe and fear for our family and friends when it comes to violence and criminal activity aimed at us, more so due to the fact that we all know that the law only protects the scum of the earth. therefore im horrified to hear that a decent family man is being punished for defending himself and his property. im disgussted and angry and i hope that the people we have intrusted to deal with this travesty will realise soooner than later and free this hero sooon as

Comments: the injustice in this sentence is dispicible, a father of 8, it is not just stephen who is being punished for standing up against anti-social behaviour. this sentence makes a mockary of a persons right to defend themselves when under a life threatning attack, he was being stabbed!

Comments: what is justice, then again what is terror is there degrees we all have to put up with is there the big terror we see on tv ie.glasgow airport or the little terror the voting public have to put up with in our everyday lives from the scum that terrorise our families friends and neighbours who now have a permit to go out and do it again because our judiciary have now given them the green light.politicians stand up and take notice because as far as i am concerned stephen armstrong is your local voters john smeaton he is our hero for standing up and doing what anyone in his situation would do to preserve our families and communities.
