Name: Michael Rosen on May 11, 2010Comments: Education is a necessity of the modern world. It's not an optional extra, it's not something for middle class children. It shouldn't be treated as a Business as if students are chunks of raw material, which are processed and turned into commodities. Education is a human activity, about sharing ideas, concepts, processes, skills, knowledge and feelings. We hear from leaders of industry that 'we' won't be able to afford to educate everyone to the level that they can achieve. Many will have to stop when the economics says they'll have to stop. In other words, capitalism can't afford to educate everyone. We fight against this and part of that fight is to support these Sussex staff members. I back all strikes and occupations to achieve their full reinstatement.Flag

Name: ANDREW BURNYEAT on May 11, 2010Comments: There is no case against the six. They were picked at random. I'm 43 years old and I have never heard of a worse miscarriage of justice in my life apart from that of the Birmingham Six. The scale might be different but the falsification of evidence and the random choosing of victims are hauntingly similar. Sussex uni management has a chance now to show that it shares the values of justice that its preecessors have upheld, and it should take it, or risk comparison with the discredited - and disbanded - West Midlands Serious Crime Squad.Flag

Name: Jonathan Lea-Howarth on May 12, 2010Comments: As a former BSc and MA graduate of the Uni of Sussex I am appalled to see the direction the university hierarchy is taking. Education should be accessible for all and not reduced to a dollar sign. The staff should be supported, NOT exploited. The administration should be ashamed of turning a once respected university into a corporate joke.Flag
