Name: Sarah Bushong-Weeks on Jul 27, 2010Comments: I don't understand what is going on in this state! When did horses and those who love them become the enemy? I would rather run into a rider on horseback, than a dog off-leash! And I see that situation all the time! According to the CDC, 4.5 million people are bitten by a dog every year. In 2006, 31,000 people required reconstructive surgery from dog bites! There might be one hiker hurt by a horse attack on a trail, but I've never heard of one. Horse manure is made of pure plant matter & is a coveted fertilizer in a large part of the world. It biodegrades in about a week! Just like all the deer, elk, antelope, and all the other plant eating wildlife in Colorado. Finally, I have worked with hydro-geologist for 20 years and when I tell them people think horse urine contaminates the water supply, they always have a good laugh! Please open the park to horse lovers.Flag

Name: Carolyn Weckstrom on Aug 16, 2010Comments: I would love to see Staunton State Park be open to equestrians (and not bikes). Jefferson County Open Space is open to hikers, bikers, and horses or just hikers. I am convinced that bikes do the most damage to trail systems and anywhere the bikes go the trail becomes very unsafe for horses. Dirt disappears and leaves only rocks.Flag
