A well respected teaching philosophy established by Dr Maria Montessori in 20th century Italy which has spread worldwide and continues to be an excellent educational and social environment for children, contributing to educational reform around the world and across all social, economic and cultural backgrounds.   In essence, the Montessori method places the child at the centre of their own learning, equipping them to learn how to care for themselves, others and the environment and to have a positive attitude for learning and problem solving.   A simple structure on which to pin the Montessori approach is:   Respect yourself, Respect others, Respect the environment  Further reading: http://www.montessori-uk.org/   http://www.montessorieducationuk.org/

We believe that families should be able to choose the education they want for their children regardless of their ability to pay.  Thus, we seek to fulfil two key requirements for the city – more state primary school places and to increase choice and diversity to families by offering a Montessori education  Members of our committee include families across the city not allocated any of their preferences for infant school or a school within statutory walking distance of their homes  We have already seen the success of Montessori projects in state schools in such diverse areas as Manchester, Essex and Blackpool and would welcome one to Brighton
