Name: Anonymous on May 23, 2011Comments: Continuity only adds to a story, and being in the information age means that we are now able to have stories on a previously unimaginable scale, due to the ease in which we are now able to avoid contradictions. Indeed, there is little I can say thath has not already been said by the ones who set this petition up, but the sad truth remains that there are very few stories that have achieved so much depth... In short, it is surprising how much creative freedom one can have while avoiding such contradictions, and with such a good job having been done to respect one another's work so far, I am confident that there is hope that the star wars galaxy will remain not just amazing... But epic. Just like real people, fictional characters are shaped by a myriad of experiences, and the past can always open as many futures as it closes. If there are aspects which you would inevitably wish to keep to yourself, then just inform people, they won't be offended (heck, that's what happened with the clone wars way before the prequel trilogy came out didn't it?) And quite honestly... Those who are not concerned with continuity issues are likely to enjoy the story anyway, so if its not possible to please everybody, we can still come very close. Thank you for a chance to speak. And... Uh... Heh... May the force be with you. :)Flag

Name: David James on Jun 7, 2011Comments: Mr. Lucas, I have enjoyed the many Expanded Universe stories over the past couple of decades since Timothy Zahn wrote the trilogy set five years after Return of the Jedi. I realize that maybe before then the stories told in and around Star Wars may not have been deemed "official", but this trilogy was, and future works while with Bantam was treated with respect and there was a great work to tie everything together. Even when Del Rey took over the stories again, there seemed to be a lot of work by everyone involved to keep things as harmonious as possible. Now, although I realize that you created this universe and own the rights for it, you seem to not care that so many have put in so much effort to help you flesh out the universe you've created. You don't seem to respect this effort with the blatant disregard to many stories already put in place and even things written recently to support your recent Clone Wars project. Whereas the authors consider this a collaborative effort to help you flesh things out, you don't even consider them. I for one do not at this point and will not support the Clone Wars animated series. I don't watch it and I will not purchase any DVDs of it. If you cannot take the time to read the many novels and short stories out there that have been written (and if you were to start right now you'd have too much to read anyway) then at least use your people that are in charge of this as people that know what's already taken place and ask them, "Hey, if I were to do this with this character right here would that fuck anything up already in progress in the Expanded Universe stuff or should I use a different character?" Maybe if you treat the authors that have written the extra material for you and the fans that buy it with respect people will stop being mad at you for what you've done. I've been reading the stories for some time now, but with the way you've disregarded authors' efforts, even though I have some of the novels on my shelves that haven't been read yet, I haven't touched a Star Wars novel in over a year now because I'm so disgusted with trying to figure things out which is something I'd never had to do before the past few years. I'm highly considering never buying another Star Wars novel again because of this. I'd encourage others to consider that too. What if thousands of people were to stop buying the Star Wars novels for at least one year, would that let you know that you need to take your cash cow just a little more seriously? Think about that for a moment, sir.Flag

I gladly watch The Clone Wars because it is a continuation of the greatest story ever told, but I am concerned, as I understand others are concerned, that The Clone Wars is usurping the positions of previously-established Expanded Universe works. LucasArts has the ability to prevent this and I feel that it should keep a sharper eye out for these issues.Flag

Name: Sam Alexander on Jun 12, 2011Comments: I whole heartedly agree with this petition. The retcons seen over the past few years have caused me much disapointment with the franchise. As a lifelong star wars fan who has followed every novel, comic and video game over the past 20 years, it pains me to see everything get replaced in by a simplistic children's cartoon. Please pay better attention to the continuity as none of the retcons made by the Cartoon were at all essential to the plot of the show. A tiny tweak to a couple of lines was all it would have taken to keep the history intact.Flag
