This is a petition for the Stanford University football team to boycott the 2011 BCS Fiesta Bowl, in Glendale Arizona. We are encouraging all Americans who oppose racial discrimination to support the movement to boycott the state of Arizona. We must act with our wallets to ensure that civil rights violations, racism, and white supremacy will not be tolerated in contemporary society. Arizona's SB 1070 must be smashed and overturned! Right now there is an injunction against the law, but supporters of immigration rights have to make thier voices heard and thier demands clear: full citizenship rights to all who seek them, without conditions! In 1991 several college football teams refused to participate in the Fiesta Bowl as a protest against Arizona's refusal to recognize Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s national holiday. The following year the boycott achieved it's goal as Arizona relented and honored Dr. King with a national holiday. Stanford University has legacy of fighting racial injustice and discrimination. It was the very first major university to drop the use of Indians as an athletic mascot nearly 40 years ago. Stanford is in a position to demonstrate leadership on a national stage, which is worth much more than a "W" in the win column at the 2011 Fiesta Bowl.
