Comments: Caroline is a victim of an internal witch hunt within UNISON. Any trade union should rejoice that they have quality activist such as Caroline, not ban them from office.

Comments: Caroline is an excellent Trade Unionist who is a credit to the union. Her suspension is a disgrace and makes a mockery of Unisons claim to be a democratic trade union. This sentence must be lifted immediately. UNISON Service Group Executive member. Yorkshire & Humberside (Personal Capacity)

Comments: Witch hunting activists is not a legitimate trade union activity and it is those involved who bring the movement into disrepute. Given the current and future circumstances the public sector face actions such as these are shamful.

Comments: I was so shocked to hear about this. I have known Caroline for a long time and she has always been just what you would want in an union activist - efficient, so hard working and cares so much about the members. What is our union doing persecuting activists like Caroline - this is Kafka land.

Comments: Caroline has done more for UNISON than any of the people bringing these charges against her, put together. Sadly once again it is the accusers and not the accused who are bringing the union into disrepute. These farcical charges should be dropped and Caroline reinstated immediately.

Comments: I have known Caroline Bedale for over thirty years, as a campaigner and trade union activist who has dedicated her life to promoting the interests of working people, and particularly her trade union members. She has earned the respect and affection of Unison members, who see in Caroline the best of trade unionism. The action taken against Caroline is indefensible and the decision to ban her from office for 8 years will be seen as an act of vindictiveness which has sullied Unison's reputation.

Comments: I am angry that UNISON is abusing a woman of such achievment and integrity as Caroline in this manner, as she is such a good organiser, branch secretary, representer of members interests and activist for both the NHS and the whole trade union movement. I believe that UNISON is acting in a manner prejudicial to workers' interests and those of the wider trade union movement by wasting time persecuting and witch hunting activists like Caroline, instead of working with them in waging coherent political campaigns against the forces that really are out to get us. Shame on you UNISON, Dave Prentis and all those who are responsible for such a detrimental and despicable act. It is Caroline Bedale and all the other persecuted activists who are the real life blood of the union, not those who sit in judgement and I know who I want on my side in the struggle, so think again and fast or bring UNISON Into disrepute.

Comments: I am appalled at the hounding of Caroline Bedale, a most worthy Comrade to all of us in the Hazards Campaign, especially in it's European links with health and safety activists. Her suspension will deny many workers of the caring, and effective help she has given them and also hinder her work in the wider labour movement. At the moment I am in Germany at my daughter's home and will be unable to attend any support meetings for Caroline until mid-January. However I shall be writing to Dave Prentis about this pilloring and that of my long-standing Comrade Alan Docherty, the Darlington Council branch secretary who stood by me 20 years ago when NALGO failed to help me after being arrested on picket lines in their national strike, and later when as the council's safety and contract compliance boss I vigourously set policies which kept council contracts from the private sector.

Comments: I am appalled and shocked that Caroline has been treated in this way by Unison, I have never met anyone else more dedicated, fair, and highly respected amongst both staff and members alike. I am convinced that members will suffer as a result of this action. I fully support her in every way and am loathe to remain in a union that would handle this situation and suspend one of their most dedicated members in this way. Good luck Caroline, you have my total support.

Comments: Urge Unison to drop this case against Caroline Bedale Suggest Caroline's decades of dedicated work for union members must totally outway any difference the Union Executive may have with her and will ultimately bring them into disrepute with members whilst handing employers some advantages.

Comments: Unison needs to pay attention. If the union itself takes such punitive action on such slight grounds against its most active and well regarded officers like Caroline it will sink into irrelevancy. If the members see their most tangible support attacked and then removed by the union organisation they will reason the union organisation doesn't value them and won't support them and membership will disintegrate - quite rightly - as a result. Does Unison want to destroy a strong branch for no good reason.

I am a union rep for Unite and whilst I would not presume to criticise the activities of another union I cannot help but sympathise with Caroline's plight, her only "crime" being that she is too good at her job as a union activist!
