We, the undersigned, are calling for the peaceful assembly of ALL Nations, to protest the proposed sulfide mining which is about to take place on the Yellow Dog Plains in Marquette County, Michigan, USA.

This is ancestral and sacred grounds to the anishinaabeg (aka, Ojibwe, Chippewa) of this area.  It has been and is the site of many important ceremonies and gatherings, including "camps" for the blueberry harvest, which the anishinaabeg have participated in for millenia.

Not only is this area significant in regards to spiritual and traditional aspects, it is a vitally important area as far as the environment is concerned; the sulfide mining that Rio Tinto/Kennecott is proposing to commence with has the potential to be devasting beyond imagination.  The waters that are in this area drain into Lake Superior, the largest of the Great Lakes, which supply one-fifth of the world's total volume of fresh water.  The damage caused to the flora and fauna of this area is just as devastating.  For more information concerning the effects of sulfide mining, simply "google" sulfide mining.  Be prepared to be horrified.

Please help us to help our future generations.  miigwech.  Thank you.

 Sincerely,

 Susan Smart
