Do you feel politics represents you?

If the answer is No read on…

I feel let down by the current political parties and have created this petition to get as many young people/adults to get up and stand up for their rights!

Politicians cater their ideologies and policies to those they expect to vote for them (for example; the middle and upper class, the elderly, owners and investors in business, bankers etc).

Many of these groups have either benefited or not been significantly effected by the social circumstances we currently live in, such as the rising house prices, cuts to the state education system, benefit cuts, rising cost of higher education, or the use of public taxes to maintain the banking sector. It is the younger and less wealthy generation who not only lack political representation, but also are hit the hardest by political decisions.

It’s no secret that young voters feel completely disenfranchised and disengaged with the current political system. Low voter turnouts are generally expected among the mainstream political parties; therefore they do not even consider us in their policies or manifestos.

Young voters have recently shown their anger in large protests, leading to many arrests and a demonisation by the media who have represented our generation as uneducated ‘rioters’ and ‘criminals’.

It is time for us to now play ‘their game’ and hit them hard by (unexpectedly) using our right to vote! We need to put pressure on the current government and mainstream political parties by showing them that we know our rights and we intend to use them.

The coalition, being so used to its political power, were too arrogant to even realise that UKIP had the potential to gain the support and votes they did in the 2014 European elections. Similarly, if enough young voters stood together, I sincerely believe that we can gain better representation and policies that work for us.

You may think to yourself that all politicians are the same and should you decide to participate in politics by voting, you will be ignored. But let me present you with an alternative. You can show your frustration against the main political parties by ‘spoiling’ your vote - ticking every box on the ballot paper. By doing this you are exercising your right to vote, whilst expressing your dissatisfaction with the current political system. This can possibly prevent any party from gaining the majority of votes needed to form a government. Historically many have fought and given their lives for the ‘right to vote’ and I think it is about time we used this privilege.

Please sign this petition to put pressure on the current political parties. We need to show them that we know our rights and we want control our future! There is power in the majority and I think its time ‘we the people’ worked together to get society working for us! You just watch the politicians change their messages in the lead up to the General Election when they realise we are ready to ‘play their game’ and win it! Watch them come to us and cater their policies to us.

If you want change, you need to be that change!

UNITY IS STRENGTH!!!
